Baby Box Turtle Care

Housing: 10-15 gallon tank, or similar sized container.
Substrate: I keep mine on a 1” layer of damp peat moss/sand mixture (50/50
ratio) with a layer of damp sphagnum moss. I provide various hiding spots, but
most of the babies will just bury themselves under the substrate. KEEP IT
DAMP!
Lighting: Provide UVB lighting for 12 hours a day.
Heat: Should be kept around 85 °F, this can be achieved by using an under
tank heating pad or basking light. (If using a basking light, keep a closer eye
on the humidity)
Water: provide water in a shallow dish such as a jar lid. I dig them up at least
3 times a week and soak them in a container of shallow water for about 15
minutes; just to be sure they are well hydrated.
Food: Live foods such as small earthworms, small crickets, doodlebugs,
mealworms etc… Low-fat canned dog food, soaked repto-min pellets , soaked
JumboMin
Fruits & Veggies: apples, pears, melons, berries, collard greens, mustard
greens, dandelion greens, squash, carrots… just to name a few. (Be sure to
chop up the food to small enough size) Provide a variety! Note: baby box
turtles are usually not very interested in their fruits & veggies, try mixing it up
with some canned dog food.
Vitamin/calcium supplements: Cuttlebones  provide an excellent source of
calcium, you can just leave it in the tank and the turtles will munch on it when
they want.
Repcal herptivite  is a multivitamin that can be sprinkled on foods a couple
times a week.
Repcal calcium   can be sprinkled on foods a couple times a week.
